Mucous membranes • Line cavities that communicate with the exterior • Contain lamina propria: loose connective tissue • Epithelial tissue: stratified squamous, simple columnar,etc • Produces mucus • Wet membranes • Mucus x urine
Serous membranes • Line sealed internal cavities • Secretes serous fluid • Simple squamous epithelial • Endothelium • Lines blood vessels • Endocardium • Lines the heart cavity
Serous membranes • Mesothelium • Two layers:Visceral x parietal • Pleura • Peritoneum • Pericardium
