3. A community worker helps to fix problems citizens in the community may be having. They help people who need jobs, housing, and education. Community workers visit families at their homes to help explain services available to them. They may also work with the police to help communication between citizens in the community.

4. Veterinarian By Christopher Chiera Keely Blum

5. Veterinarian • A veterinarian is important because they help to take care of animals in our community. When an animal is sick, a veterinarian will give them a shot of medicine to make them feel better. A veterinarian not only helps sick animals, but they also watch animals for those who have gone away on a vacation. Veterinarians also neuter and spay animals so they don’t have babies. A vet takes care of many different animals, such as dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, and hamsters. When you go to a vet you may see animals for sale, such as kittens, puppies, or stray animals. Veterinarians also groom pets. Without veterinarians there would be many sick animals in our community.

7. Firefighter • A firefighter’s job is to help protect people in the community. A firefighter puts out fires in houses by using large hoses that connect to fire hydrants. Some firefighters sleep at the firehouse so if there is a fire call in the middle of the night, they are ready to go. Firefighters ride in big red fire trucks to get to the fire quickly. On the fire truck there are sirens, a ladder, hoses, and other equipment they may need. Firefighters have to wear special gear that is fireproof to help protect their skin from burns. They have oxygen masks on their face so they can breathe. When a firefighter is inside a burning building, they have to move quickly and get any people still inside the building, out. The firefighters outside of the burning building need to spray the building with the hoses.

9. Librarian • A librarian is important because they can help people who want to find a book in the library. Another important job a librarian has is teaching someone how to use the computer. A librarian can teach a student how to use a card catalog to find a specific book they are looking for. Since a librarian knows a lot about books, they are good to talk to if you need books on a specific topic. In school, the librarian runs different centers in the library where students get to read books by themselves. Librarians also read aloud to students.

Jafet says… • A Mayor can be a man or a woman. • A Mayor works in an office. • It is not a fun job, but I want to be a Mayor because I want to be in charge • Mayors have to work with people in the community. I like to work with people like my Mom and Mrs. Veith. • If I was a Mayor I would name my city City Town

12. Martina says… • A mayor runs a city. • A mayor works at a buzy office. • I want to be a mayor because I want to run a city. I want to tell people what to do. • Mayors have to make sure that everything is OK in the city. • If I was a mayor, I would name my city Happy Town.

14. Pizza Maker • A pizza maker may own a pizza shop. A pizza maker is important because they know how to make good food for customers. When a pizza maker makes a pizza, they have too first pre-heat the oven and get all of their ingredients together. The first step to making a pizza is to make the crust with pizza dough. Then they have to spread the sauce around and put the cheese on top. If the customer wants any other toppings on their pizza, the pizza maker will drop the second topping on top of the cheese. After, they have to put the pizza in the oven to cook. It takes good team work to make a pizza customers would enjoy.

16. Police Officer • A police officer’s job is to help protect citizens in a community and to enforce the laws. A police officer carries weapons for safety. The police have cop cars that have sirens, to get to an emergency as quick as possible. Police officers have special uniforms they have to wear. The police not only help in emergency situations, but they also arrest those who break the law. Police officers are also known as “cops.” Cops have walkie-talkies that they use to communicate back and forth with other cops. A cop may use their walkie-talkie to call for more help. Our community wouldn’t be as safe without police officers.

17. TEACHER BY Haley Winne and Hayley Barnes

Haley says… • Teachers are paid by tax. • They let people inspire themselves. • They teach them how to do crazy things like how to make a robot. • They teach them about governments and people who work in our community. • I like the kids so that is why I want to be a teacher. • You know all these things that you did in the “olden days” so you can teach the stuff that you know.

Hayley says… • Teachers teach the kids things like math and reading. • They teach the kids how to spell words for spelling tests. • Teaching is a fun job because it is fun to be with kids. • I like to help people so that is why I want to be a teacher. • They help people to learn. • They help them to learn how to use a computer.
