Graduation Requirement-22.0 Credits Minimum- • English – 4 credits • Social Studies – 2.5 credits 1.0 U.S. History, 1.0 CWP, .5 Elective & WA state history (taken in 7th gr. In district). • Science – 2 credits • Math – 2 credits • Family Health – .5 credit • Fitness – 1.5 credits • Fine Arts – 1 credit • Occupational Ed. – 2 credits • Electives – 6.5 credits
HSPE- Reading, Writing, Math & Science • HSPE= High School Proficiency Exam • Class 2010-2012 must pass reading and writing to graduate . • Math- if students do not pass the math HSPE then they will be required to take and pass math as a junior and a senior to graduate. • Class of 2013 will be required to pass reading, writing, math and science. • Benefits= shorter exam and will be completely computerized over the next couple of years. • HSPE will begin in March…. watch for dates.
Culminating Project &High School and Beyond Plan Senior year students will complete: • research paper • service learning project (15 hrs of community service) • formal presentations • JAS Interview • high school and beyond plan

Running Start • Interested in taking classes at Clark College in the Fall of next year? • Students should be mature and college ready and on track to graduate. • January 14th or January 20th students & parents must attend a Information Night at Clark College 7-8 p.m. • After meeting students will register online to take the COMPASS exam. • March 25th students & parents attend must attend a Orientation Night at WHS at 6 p.m. to receive contract and learn about required courses for graduation. • Running Start students will complete their High School and Beyond Plans and Culminating Projects at Clark College.
Clark County Skills Center • Are you thinking about getting job specific training and Clark Community College credits in high school? • Enrollment for next year will start with an application process this Spring! • Make sure you are on track with credits to have room in your schedule to attend the Skills Center in your Junior and Senior Year.

Junior Year At a Glance • Credit check and post secondary advising with Mrs. Lindsey and Mrs. Spencer. • Visit career center @ WHS • Portland College Fair in October • Plan a college visit, take a tour and talk to a financial aid advisor. • Take the PSAT in fall @ WHS (cost= $12.00). • SAT in March. • ACT in April. • Advanced Placement tests in May. • Forecast for rigorous classes in your Senior year.
Summer Time At a Glance • Take a summer class at Clark College or the Skills Center. • Do community service, internship, apprenticeship, look for a leadership position, and a NTA (Non Teenager Activities). • Get a paid job. • Visit colleges (pick 3-6 colleges at least 1 dream, 1 realistic and 1 fall back school). • Research…...research…….research!
What Can Parents Do? • Talk to your son/daughter about what they may be thinking about doing after graduation? • Offer support and encouragement. • Be a member of your child’s support team. • Educate yourself about the college process or training programs in which your child is interested. • Consider all options with your student. • Help keep track of important dates and deadlines. • Attend meetings such as (conferences, Parent Nights, College Nights and Financial Aid /Nights). • Monitor your child’s stress level. • Ask questions!
