This monument is an awe-inspiring and sombre reminder of the atrocities that were committed in Germany during a very dark part of history. The monument occupies 205,000 square feet of land, which is full of 2,711 blank, non-descript stone slabs that are each individually unique in size and shape and is open all the time, year round. The architect hoped that the monument would give visitors a disorientating feeling, one which they would remember for the rest of their lives. In the center of this field of slabs is an underground information center where visitors will find information on families and individuals whose lives were destroyed by the Nazi party. It is a sight that no visitor to Berlin should miss!
