We Can Please God

We Can Please God. Hebrews 11:6. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9).

  1. We Can Please God Hebrews 11:6

  2. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9)

  3. “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6)

  4. Faith Matters • Wording explains the seriousness • “But without faith it is impossible to please God” • “But with faith it is possible to please God” • Either way, faith is seen as important

  5. A faith that can be known and understood • Comes by (through) the word of God (Rom. 10:17) • A faith put into action (James 2:22-26; cf. Mk. 16:16) • A faith that saves (Rom. 5:1; Eph. 2:8) • A faith that doesn’t stand still (2 Peter 1:5-7)

  6. God Can Be Pleased • Enoch pleased God (Heb. 11:5; Gen. 5:21-24) • He walked with God (re. Gen. 6:9). • Consider 3 John 4 • Ought to be our goal (2 Cor. 5:9)

  7. “I just want to encourage every one of us to realize when we obey God, we’re not doing it for God—I mean, that’s one way to look at it—we’re doing it for ourselves. we’re doing it for ourselves, because God takes pleasure when we’re happy. That’s the thing that gives Him the greatest joy. So, I want you to know this morning: Just do good for your own self. Do good because God wants you to be happy. When you come to church, when you worship Him, you’re not doing it for God really. You’re doing it for yourself, because that’s what makes God happy. Amen?”

  8. Our Faith Is To Please God • Like unto self-centered religion (Lk. 18:9-14; esp. 11-12) • Our aim ought to be that our faith pleases God (1 Thess. 2:4) • A choice to do so regardless of the situation (Jer. 42:5-6) • Motivation (Jn. 14:15) • The brethren of Christ (Lk. 8:21) • God is pleased with our obedience (1 Jn. 3:22)
