KNOW YOURSELF • What are your strengths and weaknesses? • Identify what makes you successful. • Spotlight your strengths. • Minimize your weaknesses.
SET YOUR OWN GOALS • Everyone needs both personal and professional goals. • Set some form of measurement to gauge success. • Write your goals.
UPDATE YOUR SKILLS • Take advantage of learning opportunities. • Engage in volunteer activities to enhance current skills. • Go back to school, take a few courses as needed for the position you want.
MAKE A COMMITMENT • Be in tune with your organization. • Gain an understanding of the goals, measures and business strategy. • Align your goals with business goals.
HAVE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE • Make your voice heard in a positive way. • Make a difference in the way you present your ideas. • Let your work ethic become your legacy.
TAKE RESPONSIBILITY • Be willing and able to accept responsibility as well as praise. • Be prepared to learn from mistakes. • Be willing to take on unfamiliar tasks or projects and follow through.
BE FLEXIBLE • Be willing to work other than a 9 to 5 routine. • Change is Inevitable-Growth is Optional. • Make it known that you are flexible to do the job when it needs to be done, and where it needs to be done.
Network, Network, Network • Be receptive to your peer groups. • Share opportunities and successes. • Seek the knowledge, advice and experience of others and return the favor.
SEEK OUT A MENTOR • There is great value in a mentoring relationship. • A Mentor can provide an objective view without fear of repercussion. • Seek advice from a trusted mentor and return the favor.
BE WILLING TO TAKE RISKS • At some point in your career, you will have to take risks, so be ready • Take calculated risks and be aware of possible consequences • “Nothing ventured, nothing gained”
AVOID OFFICE POLITICS • Every organization has some form of office politics. • Make every effort to avoid office politics; it is a dangerous game that creates problems. • Remain focused on your goals. • Don’t feed the negativity.
WORK SMART • Focus on doing the best you can do at all times. • Concentrate on delivering results that are the best you can achieve. • Be confident of your own success; others will follow.
ACT LIKE A WINNER • It takes commitment, enthusiasm, a positive attitude, a willingness to take responsibility. • It takes a desire to learn continuously, to be flexible, to make your voice heard in a positive way. • It takes networking, sharing, accepting advice, taking calculated risks.
ACT LIKE A WINNER • Be the “go to” person that gets the job done. • Know what you want; be honest about your strengths and weaknesses. • Align your goals with goals and business strategy of your organization.
