Tired Of Your Fishing Line Breaking??? We are too… Over the next few slides you will learn about an idea a partner and I developed to help you land more fish.
We used the Engineering and Design Process to address this issue. In this 10 step process we first identified the problem and started putting reason’s together as to why this issue occurs. Here are some of the reason. While these are all ways that your line can be affected, we discussed this list and decided to pick 7 of these reason’s and figure out a way to minimize the affect they have on you as the angler. Old line/Not changing enoughWrong or Bad knowFrey in the lineSharp Eyelets on the rodDrag set to tightImproper techniqueFish on with teethBad/Sharp shot on lure, hook, sinker etc…Missed eyelet when threading the rodLure strapped to tight when not in useBird’s nest in the lineRushing when tying knotNot retying enoughStoring under light/heatHooking lures into reel when not in useReeling lure to the top guideOverlapping lineFishing heavy coverProper strength of line
The 7 Items we chose to focus on are… • 1. Line is old and needs changed • 2. Line above lure worn • 3. Pole/Lure in bad condition • 4. Improper storage • 5. Not retying enough • 6. Not taking time when tying • 7. Not using proper equipment With these items chosen we now have to figure out how to address these problems and help remind or teach anglers on what they should always keep in mind. After talking we have came up with the idea of designing a simple and easy but affective reminder/tutorial reference card. We want to make a card that could fit in your wallet or pocket and also a sticker that could be placed on your boat, tackle box, etc…. On the next page you will see what we have designed.
We started designing and came up with our first prototype. After that we evaluated what we had and made a few adjustments . After that revision we looked at it one more time and came up with our final design. Below you will find our drafts along with our final product. FIRST REVISED FINAL
We have now got to the end of our project and by following the 10 steps of the Engineering and Design Process we were able to identify a problem and come up with reasons the problem exists and then come up with a counter measure to fix this issue. With this being said, we feel if all anglers out there would get a copy of this card or sticker and place it in a location where they will see often when fishing or preparing to go fishing that their overall fishing experience should be a whole lot more productive. When using this product as a tutorial or a simple reminder you should be able to stay a step ahead of that line breaking moment that we all know and hate. Further more this may allow you to actually land that once in a life time trophy fish.
