About the Poet • Emily Dickinson was born on December 10th of 1830. • While she was one of America’s best poets, she lived a strange life of social seclusion. • She enjoyed wearing only white dresses, another strange thing about her. • Dickinson was very dedicated to her poetry, writing over 1700 poems in her lifetime but was fairly unknown while she was alive. • At the age if 55 she died from Bright’s disease, doctors also said that stress was a main cause of her early death.
A Poor Torn Heart, A Tattered Heart A POOR torn heart, a tattered heart, That sat it down to rest, Nor noticed that the ebbing day Flowed silver to the west, Nor noticed night did soft descend 5 Nor constellation burn, Intent upon the vision Of latitudes unknown. The angels, happening that way, This dusty heart espied; 10 Tenderly took it up from toil And carried it to God.
