Overview of ArtsTECH Academy • California Partnership Academy (school within a school) • 3-year program beginning in 10th grade • 2 strands from which to choose: Visual Arts and Technology or Theatre Arts • Broad selection of career choices: (Animation, Fashion Design, Architecture, Illustration, Game Design, actor, interior design, Set Design, Script Writer, Graphic Design, Director, Photography, Audio/Video Production, New Media Design) • College credit for Academy technology capstone courses

ArtsTECH essential question:“How do art and technology influence ourselves and culture.” • 10th grade focus: Self-Discovery through the Arts • 11th grade focus: Community Connections • 12th grade focus: Exploring Careers • Curriculum developed through thematic units for each grade level with culminating projects

Friends of Rose Canyon Project • Overview of Unit: Connecting Art and Nature • Driving Question: • “What is an urban nature preserve, and why is it is important?” • “How can we (ArtsTECH students) educate other about the importance of protecting our local habitat?” • Time allowance for project • Objectives • Process • Make contact with client, discuss clients need, presentation to class, guest speakers/field trips, students begins production process, evaluation of project and students work, reassess and rework, distribution of project.

Teen Community Publication • Overview of Unit: Disseminating Information to Teenagers in the Community • Driving Question: • “Where do Teenagers get information about events, activities, music, movies, etc., that interest them?” • “How can we (ArtsTECH 11th graders) create a local publication/magazine that will meet the needs and interests of teenagers (ages 14-21) in the community?” • Time allowance for project • Objectives • Process • Make contact with client, discuss clients need, presentation to class, guest speakers/field trips, students begins production process, evaluation of project and students work, reassess and rework, distribution of project.
