Visualization Discussion • What does it mean to analyze a story? • What is an inference? • How do inferences help in analyzing a story? • What is the difference between inferences and quotes from a text? • What inferences did we make in the last story we read? • How did that help in analyzing the story? • Are science fiction stories difficult to understand? Why or why not?
Visualize this story: Boarding the Nexus 2053, they took one last look at the world. The seven continents and seven seas continued to crash together and drift apart swiftly. As they turned toward the sun, they hoped their future was just as bright. • What kind of visualizations did you make? • Which parts of your visualization were based on specific parts of the text? • Which parts of your visualization were based on inferences?
Visualization Notes • While reading The Anatomy Lesson, draw four visualizations that represent the most important parts of the story. • Underneath, quote specific parts of the text as captions. • On the back, explain how the visualizations help analyze what happens in the story.
The Anatomy Lesson Questions • What did the student expect to construct out of the bones? • What was wrong with the foot he put together? The hand? The skull? • Where does the student think the skeleton is from? • What caused the librarian’s bone structure to change? • What is going to happen to the anatomy student?
