2 Timothy 1:7 (AMP)7For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.
Ministerial Resources • Power--Dunamis—Ability, Might, Strength, Miracle working energy • Love– Agape’— Unconditional and unlimited affection irrespective of its object’s condition • Sound Mind– Discipline & Self-Controlled
Ministers Face Obstacles • What is an obstacle? – problem, difficulty, challenge or hindrance to a particular mission, job or task. In our discussion, the mission is ministry (meeting people’s needs) or preaching and publication of the gospel. • Why are there obstacles? • Prophecy-- Since the rebellion of Adam • Proof –To reveal what is inside you • Presence—To display God’s power

Purpose Obstacles • We must answer the question and settle the argument as to Why we have been selected to be a minister. • Additionally, we must answer what it is we have been specifically chosen to do…. “He gave some Apostles, some Prophets, some evangelists, pastors and teachers for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of ministry for the edifying of the body of Christ.
Preparation Obstacles • Study to Show… • God His Domain, His way of being and doing right • Yourself-- • Others • Ministers • People • Stir– Rekindle, fan into flames, continue the pattern • Stabilize--yourself – be no more children • Suffer– Prepare to do without
Personal Obstacles • Fear– feeling of horror regarding something • Embarrassment– result of gospel, and mentors • Reluctance– Hesitance to move forward • Despair– the feeling hopeless, dejected, misery • Doubt– of ourselves and His word • Ignorance– of the Scriptures, Life, God’s way
People Obstacles • Devils– Those who are from Satan • Deserters – Those who will receive the message but, leave you when you need them most. All of Asia Phygellus, Hermogenes, Demas (2 Tim. 2:15; 4:10) • Deceivers– People who lead others astray by message or method. Hymenaeus, Philetus, Alexander (1 Tim 1:14; 2 Tim 2:17) • Dependable– Believers who support the leadership—Onesiphorus, Mark(2 Tim 2:16) • Disciplined-- Tychicus, Titus, Eubulus, Prisca, Aquila
Promise on the Other Side? • Eternal Life – beginning now (I Tim 4:8) • Salvation for the Lost (I Tim 4:16) • The Minister • The Hearer • A Victor’s Crown (II Tim 4:8)
