Cold Call Key Idea In order to make engaged participation the expectation, call on students regardless of whether they have raised their hands.
How can cold call help you? • Check for understanding • Increase speed in terms of pacing and the rate you cover material. • Allows you to distribute work ( questions) more broadly around the room. • Allows you to distribute work around the room authoritatively.
Principles for using Cold Call. • Cold Call is predictable. • Cold Call is systematic, • Cold Call is positive • Cold Call can be used with hands up or down. • Time the name • Mix it with other engagement techniques like call and response, pepper, etc.
