Born in London, England • Raised by her single mother • Brought into math at an early age • She translated Luigi Federico Menabrea’s published paper describing the function and theory of Babbage's Analytical Engine from French to English and added her own comments. • Charles Babbage called her the “Enchantress of Numbers” and was impressed with her skills • She worked with the Kervaire-Milnor formula which involves Bernoulli’s Numbers in topology. • Topology- properties of continuous deformation of objects including stretching but not tearing and gluing • She worked with Bernoulli’s Numbers • She described an algorithm for the analytical engine to compute Bernoulli numbers. • Bernoulli’s Formula • Called herself an Analyst & Metaphysician • December 10, 1815 – November 27, 1852
