  3. Bienvenidos Bienvenidos a un nuevo año escolar en Jorge Mas Canosa Middle School! Mi nombre es Ms. Rodriguez y seré la profesora de su niño de 6, 7, o 8 grado de artes del lenguaje (Language Arts.) y también de ESOL. Lo que sigue es la información necesaria que usted y su niño encontrará útil al prepararse para este año escolar. Class Information GENERAL RULES • You should be in your seat when the bell rings; otherwise you will be marked tardy. • No chewing gum. • Absolutely no electronic devices should be visible or heard or else they will be confiscated. • ALWAYS raise your hand if you have a question or comment; do not interrupt the teacher or another student. • I dismiss you, NOT the bell. • ALWAYS SHOW RESPECT TO YOUR TEACHER AND CLASSMATES.

Class Information ASSIGNMENT RULES • When the bell rings you should have all your materials ready and start your warm-up activity/journal topic. • Have your homework out ready to be checked or turned in. • Be prepared for the day’s lesson by being respectful and paying attention. • ALWAYS write your heading on the upper right hand side of the paper: name, date, period, assignment. • Work quietly and don’t interrupt the working environment. • Make sure you copy your homework assignment before leaving. • MAKE SURE YOU ASK QUESTIONS WHENEVER IN DOUBT. • ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST AND YOU’LL ACHIEVE SUCCESS! • THIS WILL BE AN EXCITING AND EDUCATIONALLY REWARDING YEAR! • LET’S WORK TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS!

Supplies • 1 inch 3-ring binder • Highlighters • Agenda to write homework • pencils • 5 Dividers for binder (with tabs) • Blue or Black ink pens • Notebook paper • Red ink pens • 1 Composition book • 1 spiral notebook • Home Language/English • Dictionary to keep at home • Basic Art Supplies (scissors, glue, sharpeners, colored pencils, or crayons) • 1 Yellow, 1 red 3 prongs w/ pockets folders

Grades Your child’s overall grade will consist of scores from tests, class assignments, home learning assignments, projects, notebook checks, composition entries, current events and class participation. Students will be informed of the weight of each assignment when given the instructions and requirements. Tests and projects will be weighted more heavily, and will usually count as two to three grades, in the overall average. No late work will be accepted! Missing assignments will result in an automatic zero. I look forward to a terrific school year and am excited about the opportunity to teach your child. Grados El grado total de su niño consistirá en sumar las evaluaciones obtenidas que consistirán en, las tareas durante la clase, las tareas realizadas en sus hogares, los proyectos, los chequeos del cuaderno, las composiciones así como la participación en las clases. Los estudiantes serán informados del peso de cada evaluación cuando se les de las instrucciones y los requisitos requeridos por cada una de ellas. Las pruebas y los proyectos serán evaluados con mayor puntaje, y contarán generalmente como dos a tres grados, en el promedio general. ¡No se aceptará ningún trabajo entregado tarde! Las evaluaciones que le faltan darán lugar a un cero automático. Miraradelante en este año escolar será mi principal objetivo, el cual estoy segura que será fabuloso , sintiendo orgullo de tener la oportunidad de enseñar a su niño. School Uniform Policy White or Navy Polo Shirt for Boys and Girls Shirts must be worn tucked in White, Grey, or Navy Undershirt Only Khaki Pants for Boys and Girls Capri Length (below the knee) or Cropped Pant Length for Girls No Shorts Belts are to be worn - no spikes, no inappropriate symbols on buckle School Guayabera worn on Wednesdays (optional) Team T-Shirt worn on Fridays (optional) School Hooded Sweatshirt with Logo or Navy or Grey Hooded Sweatshirt with Zipper and Logo Closed Shoes Backpacks must be able to accommodate at least one 81/2 X 11 inch binder (May not be worn by tying strings across the chest) Skateboards must be kept locked in the Bike Area. Leave all electronic devices at HOME!
