Do Now part I • Explain the difference in the two lakes / ponds
Boards - modified • Reading of 108 – 118 stopping at Ecosystems Interact. • Hypoxia, Positive & negative Feedback loops & homeostasis. How does Eutrophication occur specifically in the Gulf of Mexico. Mr. Walsh will cover • All others to be announced shortly • Explain Lithosphere, Atmosphere, Hydrosphere& Biosphere. Abiotic vs. Biotic. • Energy Flows (diagram 115) • Energy is converted to Biomass • Impact of Phosphorous & Nitrogen in water systems.
Boards - modified • Explain Lithosphere, Atmosphere, Hydrosphere & Biosphere. Abiotic vs. Biotic. Group 1 • Energy Flows (diagram 115) – Group 2 • Energy is converted to Biomass – Group 3 • Impact of Phosphorous & Nitrogen in water systems. Group 4 • Ecological Services – Group 5 (explain the slide)
Boards • Explain Lithosphere, Atmosphere, Hydrosphere& Biosphere. Abiotic vs. Biotic. • Energy is converted to Biomass • Impact of Phosphorous & Nitrogen in water systems. • Energy Flows
Boards - modified • Ecological Services – Group 5 (explain the slide)
Boards - modified • As tables work on the following pages: 108 – 118 stopping at Ecosystems Interact. Read and then discuss as a table • Hypoxia, Positive & negative Feedback loops & homeostasis. How does Eutrophication occur specifically in the Gulf of Mexico. • Explain Lithosphere, Atmosphere, Hydrosphere& Biosphere. Abiotic vs. Biotic. • Energy Flows (diagram 115) • Energy is converted to Biomass • Impact of Phosphorous & Nitrogen in water systems.
Do Now • Explain this graph with only the use of your notebook.
Net primary productivity of ecosystems Productivity = rate at which ecosystems generate biomass. High net primary productivity = ecosystems whose plants rapidly convert solar energy to biomass
Homework Part II Chapter 5 – finish the chapter for class (Today) For today’s class, be ready to explain the following (hint put this into your notebooks (or where ever you keep your notes) Also, Vocab Quiz Monday. Unit 2 test on Wednesday not Monday! Monday will be a quick review. Hydrological Cycle – All aspects Carbon Cycle and how we are negatively impacting it. Nitrogen Cycle and the impact on the oceans. Also, what is nitrogen fixing & the Haber-Bosch Process Phosphorus Cycle – impact on fresh water ways
Boards Hydrological Cycle – All aspects
Boards Carbon Cycle and how we are negatively impacting it.
Boards Nitrogen Cycle and the impact on the oceans. Also, what is nitrogen fixing & the Haber-Bosch Process
Boards Nitrogen Cycle and the impact on the oceans. Also, what is nitrogen fixing & the Haber-Bosch Process Incase it is not explained well: • Haber-Bosch process = production of fertilizers by combining nitrogen and hydrogen to synthesize ammonia. Prior to this, to achieve the same effect farmers had to dump a lot of fertilizer to some of the nitrogen to activate within the soil. • Humans overcame the limits on crop productivity
Boards Phosphorus Cycle – impact on fresh water ways
Boards - modified • Landscape ecology = studies how landscape structure affects the abundance, distribution, and interaction of organisms • Patches= form the landscape
