GK & Current Affairs preparation guide for SSC CGL Exam For SSC CGL exam, is the most important section to score high because you can score more in relatively less time if you know the correct answer This section is covers a wide subject area and you need to be that the pattern and trend is changed every year in this section. Some questions were highly specialized. Facts based questions were asked from difficult topics and concept based questions from relatively easier topics. In order to prepare well, you need to know what to study and how to study. How to study GK and Current Affairs 1. Be Selective You cannot have equal command on each and every topic. So identify your strength areas. You need not answer each and every question in exam. If you score more than 25 in this section. 2. Preparation strategy Concentrate on your strong areas rather than wasting areas on your weak areas as there is no sectional cut off. 3 .Stick to N.C.E.R.T curriculum There is no other book comparable to them. You need to go for all topics covered in this section separately. These will help you in understanding concepts as well as learning facts effortlessly. 4. Avoid cramming Try to gain some in-depth knowledge of the subject rather then cramming long lists. Learning too much fact will not help you because there are chances that you are likely to forget it before exams. 5. Learn short tricks You must develop and note down some time saving tricks to solve complex problems. 6. Attend online coaching classes General Studies is a vast subject. You can attend special online coaching for GS which will help to score more marks in general studies.
What to study Polity: The most important book on this topic is Indian Polity by M. Laxmikanth. You can also attempt to solve questions in study material and Lucent books. History: You may start by reading CBSE textbooks of class 11 and 12. Once again, Lucent’s GK book is also good for this section. Questions on Culture can also be easily solved by reading Lucent’s GK books. Get daily GK news. Geography: NCERT Textbooks for Social Science Class 7 to 10 and for Geography Class 11, 12. Economy: Mostly straightforward questions are asked. e.g. Definition and concepts of Economy. NCERT’s Economy book of Class 11 (India’s Economy & Development) is a good read for basic idea of Indian Economy. Science: NCERT textbooks of Science from class 6 to 10 are the best source. Miscellaneous: Lucent’s GK book is more than sufficient to tackle the miscellaneous topics. Current affairs: Data of census-2011, environmental issues, and current affairs. Read magazine for current affairs, no need to read them thoroughly. 4-5 questions are generally asked from current affairs. Attend online GK classes to stay updated. Indian Constitution: This is the most scoring topic in this whole section. You must do it thoroughly. You can go for N.C.E.R.T of elementary classes or 10th . This topic has some tricky areas for which you should be strong in your concepts and have enough practice. Just go for some tricky areas like powers of the President, Governer, Jurisdiction of Supreme courts, Emergency laws etc. Around 5-6 questions are generally asked from this topic.
