The Mission ICSSPE‘s mission is • to promote better scientific understanding of all facets of human movement • to educate better quality of life and improved health for all people and • to advocate the benefits related to an active lifestyle and the ethical values inherent in sporting activity

Working Programme Globalisation Healthy living across the lifespan Human performance / human development Service Science Quality Physical Education (Following World Summits on Physical Education) Advocacy Ethics and professionalisation Constituencies: internal and external, international and multi-disciplinary

OPPORTUNITIES FOR BILATERALCOOPERATION, eg USA-UK • Sharing experience of policy and advocacy; • Pressure on decision-makers and legilators; • Research collaboration – evidence of value of physical education, contributions of sport science - brain development studies, influence on school attendance, behaviour, academic achievements - SpInEd study. • Policy community stimulate research and writing on policy PROCESS (as opposed to retrospective analysis of policy texts). • Strategy ideas, eg afPE Manifesto on Physical Education – sets out policy objectives, related to systemic weaknesses in delivery system.

  5. ASSOCIATION FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION (UK) PRACTICE, RESEARCH AND POLICY PRACTICE • Influence • agendas • Exemplify • good practice • Disseminate evidence • Advocate & campaign RESEARCH POLICY

MAKING THE CASE FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION • Strong NGOs – recognising their primary purpose in representing interests of physical education, challenging GOs and policy; • Ensure strong, sustainable national networks – judgements whether pressure groups required, or mainstreaming, or both; • Keep together, academics and activists, with those responsible for policy implementation. Build a national and international policy community, including researchers.
