Tell Them From Me (TTFM) SurveyCaptain Nichola Goddard School
TTFM Survey TTFM is an online survey that allows students to give their input into school improvement initiatives in an anonymous way. The TTFM survey includes measures around social/emotional outcomes (e.g. student engagement, emotional health), physical health outcomes (e.g. physical fitness, risky behaviours), and drivers of student outcomes (e.g. quality instruction, classroom context). The survey also allows students to give their thoughts and feedback in an open-ended question response. This survey is administered twice during the school year.
TTFM Survey Our Target: 85% of student responses indicate that learning experiences are engaging and meaningful to them. Grade 4, 5 & 6: 71% of students in this school were interested and motivated; the Canada norm for these grades is 71%. Missed target Grades 7 & 8: 37% of students in this school were interested and motivated; the Canada norm for these grades is 37%. Missed target
TTFM Survey According to the system and national data, Interest and Motivation (along with other indicators of engagement) markedly decline as students progress through middle school. We aim to be an exception to the pattern
TTFM Survey Our Target: 85% of students indicate involvement in the assessment process Our Question: Do you have opportunities to set learning goals and evaluate your progress toward those goals? Grades 4, 5 & 6 Exceeded target Grades 7 & 8 Reached target
TTFM Survey Our Target: 85% of students indicate that teacher feedback improves learning Our Question: Do your teachers provide you with information that helps you understand how you can improve your learning? Grades 4, 5 & 6 Exceeded target Grades 7 & 8 Missed target
TTFM Survey • Open-Ended Questions • Example: Please tell us some of the things you really like about your school, or things that would make it even better.
TTFM Survey How did open-ended student responses from 2012-2013 serve to inform our decisions? • Provided confirmation that our school is a safe, welcoming and friendly place for our students • Informed physical configuration of space (Grade 8 and 9 students) • Reinforced desire for Servery / Snack Shack • Helped inform expansion of complementary course options • Guided expansion of resource collection in Learning Commons
