  1. How to Grow Pansies from Seeds? Pansies are bedding plants that come in a wide range of colours and patterns. One can also buy pansy seeds in garden centres and nurseries. These are cool-season plants ideal for growing in fall and spring (temperatures 65 degrees F (18 C)). It is best to cultivate pansies from seeds rather than purchasing individual plants. These are short-lived plants that bloom in cold weather. If you are looking to grow pansies in your garden this season, here are a few tips that one must consider when planting. The Right Time to Plant The mature pansies grow best under the sun or in partially shaded areas. But it is recommended to use a partially shaded location to extend its bloom time. Before transplanting these seeds outdoors, remember to keep them indoors for about six to eight weeks. Once the weather starts getting cooler, it is the right time to seed them. Generally, heat kills the plant if they flower during the summers. Thus, choose the fall, winter, or spring for this plant variety.

  2. Basics for seeds It is best to divide the seed flats into cells or small individual pots. This step prevents the plant roots from getting tangled with nearby seedlings. Also, make sure to get yourself containers with drainage holes. Fill some soil-less seed-starting mix (vermiculite and peat) into these containers. Once pots are filled with the mixture, add some water to moisten the mixture. If water begins to settle, add more to it so that there are no dry pockets. Seeding Pansies Add a single pansy seed to each pot and cover it with a 1/8 inch layer of potting mix or sand. Now, cover the pot with plastic to maintain moisture. Keep it for 10 to 14 days at a temperature between 65- and 75-degrees Fahrenheit for germinating. Soon, you'll start noticing seeds are starting to sprout. These are sensitive to sunlight so try keeping them in shady areas. Once the second set of leaves is visible, you can put them under direct sunlight till the soil is moist. Also, make sure to gently spray water while seeds are germinating. Do not turn the soil soggy. After-seeding care instructions When true leaves are visible to your naked eyes, start with the fertilizing process. Use a water- soluble fertilizer at 1/4 strength and an N-P-K ratio of 24-8-16. Also, make sure to mix three- fourths of fertilizer with the water. Once a week, apply the fertilizer solution instead of watering. Rest of the days just add regular water to maintain the moist soil. Lastly, place the plants at a distance of 6-12 inches when they are ready for your garden. One can buy pansy seeds online or in nearby markets. If you are planning to grow pansies in your garden follow the above-listed steps and instructions to keep them safe and alive for a longer period.
