Different levels of multi-sensor activities • Archiving data from multiple sensors. Done. • Harmonizing metadata. Done… more or less. • Accessing data from remote locations. Done • Harmonizing data formats for joint processing (Giovanni). Done. • Serving multi-sensor data via common protocols. Done. • Scale harmonization (Giovanni) – regridding. Done (horizontal only) • Harmonizing visualization (Giovanni, ACP). Done. • Joint analysis (Giovanni). Done and ongoing. • Merging similar parameters (Giovanni). Prototype done for Level 3. • Harmonizing quality. Working on it. • Harmonizing provenance (Measures, Giovanni, MDSA). Started. • Merging of L2 data. Near-term future • Fusing complementary geophysical variables. Future.
Multi-sensor Projects • A-Train Data Depot (ATDD), ACCESS , (PI: Kempler, Co-I: Leptoukh). • AIRS subsets for CEOP Satellite Data Gateway (Lynnes and Vollmer) • Integrated validation, intercomparison, and analysis of aerosol products from multiple satellites (ROSES-2006, PI: Charles Ichoku, Co-I: Leptoukh). • Giovanni for Year of Tropical Convection (YOTC), NASA HQ (PI: Leptoukh). • Long-Term Aerosol Data Records: Using Deep Blue to Synergize SeaWiFS, MODIS, AVHRR, and TOMS Observations, ROSES. (PI: H. C. Hsu, Co-I: Leptoukh). • Data and Services Supporting Monsoon Asia Integrated Regional Study in Eastern Asia (MAIRS), ROSES-08 (PI: Leptoukh). • Supporting Northern Eurasia Earth Science Partnership Initiative (NEESPI) (ACCESS) • Atmospheric Composition Portal (PIs: Leptoukh & Lynnes), joint NASA-DLR (Germany) . • AeroStat (PI: Leptoukh). • Multi-Sensor Synergy Data Advisor (MDSA) (PI: Leptoukh). • Community-based Giovanni (Lynnes and Leptoukh) • Water Quality for Coastal and Inland Waters (PI: Z. Lee; Co-I: James Acker). • … and more…
The GES-DISC’s niche • We have gained expertise in working with multiple formats, protocols, standards • We’ve been working data covering different disciplines: atmosphere, land and ocean • Our tools (especially Giovanni and the future Earth Science Collaboratory) allow researchers and applications users getting and analyzing diverse multi-sensor data together • We can do much more if HQ would appreciate this multi-mission-sensor-model approach
