  2. Homophones • Words that sound the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings. Same Sound Homo Phone

  3. Homophones • Over 7700 homophones in the English Language (http://wiki.answers.com)

  4. Spellcheck • Don’t rely on a spellchecker. The current version of Office identifies some words as being ‘incorrectly used’ (with a blue underline) but it won’t identify all homophones as you may not have spelt the word incorrectly, just used the wrong version of it.

  11. Wear - also relates to age. “You might wear it out before you can sell it on”. • Watch out for ‘were’. It doesn’t sound the same as where, wear and we’re but looks very similar to we’re. ‘Were’ is the past tense of the verb are: • Today we are….. • Yesterday we were……..

  22. It’s not always possible to be word perfect at all times. Your brain is always working faster than you can write or type. The important thing is that you’re happy and confident with your final piece of writing. So proofread, use a dictionary, use the internet and get it right before you send/submit/use it!
