Thank you very much for coming tonight!. Meet the teacher. My name is Tammy Wathen. I graduated from Rhode I sland College with my bachelors in Early Childhood Education. I have taught kindergarten and first grade at Seminole Springs for nine years. I have taught for 18 years altogether.

  2. Meet the teacher My name is Tammy Wathen. I graduated from Rhode Island College with my bachelors in Early Childhood Education. I have taught kindergarten and first grade at Seminole Springs fornine years. I have taught for 18 years altogether. First grade is a very special year in your child's school career! It is a time to experience important transitions and acquire new skills. It is going to be a wonderful year in first grade!!

Our Day 8:15-8:30 Morning Work 8:30-9:00 Intervention Time 9:05-9:30 Whole Group Reading (Snack 9:15) 9:30-10:45 Guided Reading and Daily 5 Stations 10:45-11:20 Language Arts 11:27-11:57 Lunch 12:05-1:05 Math (Recess Tues/Fri 12:00-12:15) 1:10-2:00 Specials (Wednesday 12:30-1:10) 2:05-3:05 Science/Social Studies

  5. Reminders *Send in a water bottle on Monday. It can be refilled in the class daily and will be sent home on Friday. *A healthy snack should be send in daily for your child. There will be no class snacks due to student needs/allergies. *Our classroom can run cool. Feel free to have your child keep a sweatshirt in his/her backpack. *School begins at 8:25am and ends at 3:15pm. *Notes need to be sent in for absences as well as changes in dismissal procedure.

Grading Language Arts: Spelling and Sentence Dictation Grammar assessments Writing Reading: Harcourt Comprehension and Standards Based Assessments -Alternating every other Friday Sight Word and Fluency Assessments Reading Cold Read Assessments Math: Timed Math Facts (tested and retested weekly) Quizzes and Tests

  9. Homework *Nightly Practice Spelling, Sight Words, Math Facts and Read for 15 minutes. Record reading on reading log daily *Weekly Assignments Monday- Fluency Passage (read each night following) Tuesday- Math Worksheet Wednesday-Reading and Spelling Practice Thursday- Math Worksheet NOTE: At times, the math concept will not be introduced until the day of the assignment.

  10. Grading Scale A 90-100 B 80-89 C 70-79 D 60-69 F 0-59 Remember to create an account on Skyward to track your child’s progress. See grade level grading policy for additional information.

  11. I use Whole Brain Teaching as a model for classroom management and instruction. The goal is to keep students actively involved in learning and instruction. We also participate in Brain Breaks on GoNoodle to help us focus. Students practice the rules and help each other follow the rules throughout the day. They work as teams to earn team points. The table with the most points earns “Movie Monday” with the teacher during lunch. Students also work on individual goals to earn stars on the Wall of Fame. Classroom Management

You can apply on the county website if you are interested. Look for the Community and Volunteer button on the side of the website.
