Pewter - Care and Cleaning Tips

Pewter is an alloy consisting mainly tin. The tin percentage can vary but most often you will find at least 90% tin with the rest consisting of antimony, bismuth and copper. This soft metal is resistant to corrosion, however some care needs to be taken to ensure the long life of a pewter object.

  2. Pewter IS AN ALLOYCONSISTINGMAINLYOFTIN. The tin percentage can vary but most often you will find at least 90% tin with the rest consisting of antimony, bismuth and copper. This soft metal is resistant to corrosion however some care needs to be taken to ensure the long life of a pewter object.

  3. CARE ANDCLEANINGTIPS Do not put any pewter object in the oven or near a hot plate or open flames. Always hand wash any pewter items, do not put them in the dishwasher. For cleaning use a small amount of warm soapie water.

  4. HOWTOPOLISHPEWTER Some pewters can be polished with white vinegar and flour. Alternatively you can buff the pewter with a soft cloth to bring back that original shine. Do not ever use silver or other polishes as they can be harmful to the pewter finish.
