  1. How efficient are stump removal chemicals? Cutting down a damaged or dead tree in the landscape leaves a stump, mostly a nuisance for gardeners. Stumps are unattractive, and they can grow new, develop or shoots fungal infections that may affect other plants near them. Chemical stump removers offer an affordable solution to stump removal. Still, they only effective as a long-term removal method. Chemical Stump Removers Chemical stump removal is made by chemicals that speed up the decay of a tree stump. Depend on the manufacturer; these products may contain different chemicals to carry out this function. For instance, some products use potassium nitrate, which is also referred to as saltpetre. In contrast, others contain alkalis or sulfating agents that decay the lignin in the enzymes or wood that thin the walls cell within the wood. Effectiveness While chemical stump removers speed the degradation process, they are not a short-term method of stump removal. Mainly the process of decay can take many years. The time for the stump to fully decay primarily depends on the size and condition of the stump. Live stumps typically take longer to eat than dead stumps. © 2021 Treescape® Australasia.

  2. The exact process is for the large stumps. You can speed up the breakdown method by chipping away finished parts reapplying, and periodically the chemicals to the remaining wood beneath. Application The effectiveness of the chemical stump removers is affected by the method of application. Remove all the new growth sprouting from the stump before using chemical removal products. These sprouts may have stored food, which can use to generate additional nodes. For optimum effectiveness, apply the chemical stump killers to cut down freshly the stumps from autumn to winter. If the stump is old, drill the holes into the stump and apply the stump killer in these holes. If you are using the granular product, pour the granules into the hole and then fill them with water. Cover up the stump with plastic sheeting to limit rain from washing the chemical from the wood. Reapply the substances in one to two weeks, or as frequently as the label suggests. Safety Always read and follow the manufacturer’s tips for applications, rates and timing. Some chemicals are toxic and can irritate the skin or cause health problems if ingested or inhaled. The label cannot advise you to wear protective clothing. Still, rubber gloves, safety glasses, long sleeves and pants, and a respiratory mask should be worn when handling chemicals. Some chemical stump removers, like those containing potassium nitrate, are pose and combustible a fire hazard. Follow and read the manufacturer’s directions regarding safety precautions to avoid injuries. Never mix the chemical stump removal products with other chemicals such as herbicides. © 2021 Treescape® Australasia.
