Learn how to solve equations by substitution in this summer AP Chemistry homework review. Work with systems of equations to solve for multiple variables without using multivariable calculus. Discover the key to isolating variables and substituting functions for effective solutions. Class example: Solve for all variables in equations like n = 4m + 3 and m + 2n = 60. Practice solving equations like Y - 2x = 1 and x + y = 16, or y - 3x = 5 and x + y = 25.

Solving Equations by Substitution Summer AP Chemistry Homework Math Review
Systems of Equations • Often times, we work with multiple equations and need to solve for multiple variables. • Since we don’t want to use multivariable calculus, we need to use systems of equations to solve for all the variables!
Solving by Substitution • The key for systems of equations is to put one variable in terms of another variable. • Through this isolation process, you are then able to substitute this function into another equation to solve for the variable
Class Example Solve for all variables shown: 1. 2. n = 4m + 3 m + 2n = 60
Try it Out! Solve for all variables shown: 1. Y – 2x= 1 x + y = 16 2. y – 3x = 5 x + y = 25
