What one should not miss out while visiting Great wall in Beijing
There is a Chinese saying which implies that a man who does not reach the Great Wall of China is not really a true man. While this saying is old and was meant for the Chinese back then, it is still worth saying that the Great Wall of China is a must visit tourist and hiking place. This place has continued to attract millions of visitors from all over the world every year. If one has already planned a trip to this wall, there are many things they will want to be prepared with. For instance, they should pack certain clothing items depending upon the time of the year they are visiting. Also, it will be important to carry accessories like sunscreen, cap, and umbrella. But what one would really want to know is about the places that should not be missed. Here is the list.
The Badaling Section Those who are visiting The Greatwall in Beijing must definitely visit the Badaling Section. It is nearly 70 km from the capital city and one can reach there in no more than 2 hours from Beijing. Most of the wall has been renovated and reconstructed as it got damaged over the centuries. It has become one of the most famous and most visited spots of the wall. There are 16 watchtowers which have been restored and are open to the public. It is one of the best spots to take lots of scenic photographs. One will also find the Great Wall Museum here but it remains closed on Monday.
The Mutianyu Section After Badaling, it is the most restored section of the Greatwall in Beijing. It is also quite popular among the tourists and travellers. This section of the wall is less than 60 km from Badaling. The 2 km restored stretch of Mutianyu is the longest redeveloped part of the whole of the wall. This section features 22 watchtowers. The finest examples of fortifications of the wall can be seen here. Such fortifications are quite rare along the rest of the wall. However, it sees lesser footfall than Badaling section.
Simatai Section Simatai is the place which is a great spot for those who love adventure. This place is less restored than the other two sections above but it is still quite well preserved. It has many ruins but there are several sections which are still intact. There are many tourists who consider this part of the wall as the best to visit. Those who like challenging trek are more likely to enjoy the eastern section of Simatai. The climb on the eastern side is tougher than the western side. One will hardly see anyone in this area who is here for vacation. Most of the people who come here do that for trekking purposes.
