  4. Stem Changes in the Preterite • Must be a stem changing verb in the present • Must end in –ir • Changes only from o-u and e-i • Changes only in 3rd person singular and plural

  7. Yo Group Characteristics • Verbs that end in –gar, -car, and –zar • Gar changes to gué • Car changes to qué • Zar changes to cé • Changes only in the “yo” form

  10. “Y” Group Characteristics • Verbs that end in –er or –ir • Verbs with a double vowel combination such as : ee- leer, ae- caer, oi- oír ui- construir, distribuir, • changes only in 3rd person singular and plural • Replace the “i” with a “y” (ex. ió- yó)
