  2. Who is he? • Craig Kielburger is a children’s rights activist. • He was born in Thornhill, Ontario on the 17th of December, 1982. • He runs an organization called Free the Children, which is mostly funded by the efforts of young people.

  3. The Beginning • Craig was 12 years old when he saw an article in the Toronto Star about a boy named IqbalMasik. • Iqbal had been in slavery since the age of 4, had become a prominent figure for child slavery, and was murdered at the age of 12. • Craig was inspired by this article to research child labor. He showed the article to 12 of his friends, and together they formed a group against child labor called Twelve-Twelve-Year-Olds.

  4. Today • Twelve-Twelve-Year-Olds later became Free the Children, an organization which has started projects all over the world to free children from slavery and abuse. • Craig was named a member of the Order of Canada on Feb. 20th, 2007. (The Order of Canada recognizes the efforts of Canadians who have made a great difference to Canada throughout their life, and non-Canadians who have improved the world.)
