Context: CIII in Cabinet Making • Traditional approach to training • Barriers successful completion: • limited engagement: • with the employer • workplace-based learning • workplace-based assessment • Attendance lower priority due to off-site time required • Accessing online learning materials anywhere/anytime • Increased pressures on physical training space within the TAFE

  4. Student Outputs: Mobility • Research: 72% trade students use smartphones • 99% have a mobile phone • Resources were designed and developed • Students were given iPads • Delivery strategy re-designed • Assessment tools developed • BYOD - Personal devices can be integrated • Aim: Improve our retention rates by meeting identified learning needs.

Background/Challenges • prior to this project • Researching different software apps to find which was appropriate to the project's needs • Being responsible for the look and feel of the publication as well as the development of the assets • , including the limitations of the inbuilt 'widgets' (interactivities), and where necessary, reworking the storyboard to allow for these restrictions • Ensuring file size was managable, yet bearing in mind image quality; particularly with regard to video compression

  8. Solutions • Centre based iPad Planner • Worked in partnership to develop assessment tools • Developed eLearning and ePub • Developed activities in Java script • Used online assessments – quizzes, online assignments in Moodle, My Moodle app • Co-taught prototype during Stage 1

  9. What we did…
