Building Global Business Skills- Using Simulation Play to Develop a Corporate Strategy and Vision Having a corporate vision and developing a strategy to reach it are essential to an enterprise’s success. A vision provides direction for the organization and aligns employees with its long-term goals. Executives can then identify the necessary tactics and implement an operational plan to achieve its targets. TRI Corporation’s vision and strategy development training programs use the compressed business cycle of a simulation to help organizations set and realize their corporate vision.

As its businesses grew increasingly complex, Microsoft Finance sought to convert its finance professionals into trusted advisors, transforming the way its worldwide team engaged with its internal business partners. The challenge was to make that opportunity available to all of its finance professionals across the globe. Partnering with TRI, it developed an intensive, six-week, fully virtual global learning experience, the Microsoft Finance Virtual Business Simulation, that then became the model for scalable online distance learning across the organization.

The program: real-world lessons from simulated play Three teams of five or six participants competed to take a struggling company to profitability in six weekly sessions, each representing a financial quarter. Technology tools carried the course content and enabled participants to control the learning pace, balancing it with their regular work schedules.
