  1. International Student Employment Assistance What is it? How can it help me? Michigan State University Office for International Students and Scholars

  2. Background Information The International Student Employment Assistance (ISEA) program is a new financial aid program designed to help international students who demonstrate financial need to compete for better on-campus jobs. The Office for International Students and Scholars will administer this new program.

  3. What is it? • Students who are American citizens or legal permanent residents are eligible for “work-study” financial aid that is supported by the U.S. Government. Eligibility is based on a student demonstrating financial need. • Work-Study pays money, not to the students, but to the on-campus employers of the students. It makes it cost 50% less to hire a student, allowing more students to be hired for more jobs on-campus.

  4. Here’s how it worked before ISEA. Until now, U.S. students with Work-Study were more attractive to on-campus employers because the employers only needed to pay about half the wage paid to the student worker. Who pays the hourly wages for on-campus employment?

  5. As a result, U.S. students with work-study awards had more opportunities for interesting, relevant on-campus jobs.

  6. Here’s how it works with ISEA. Who pays the hourly wages for on-campus employment? International Students with ISEA will now be able to compete for better on-campus jobs because the cost to the employers will be the same as hiring U.S. students.

  7. If I want ISEA, what do I do?
