MOTIVATION/INTRODUCTION • Home Invasion Becoming More Common • Technology Advances In Home Security • PLC’s Make Excellent Automation Units
PROBLEM STATEMENT • Develop some kind of security system to sound an alarm when a burglar enters the house • Must be inexpensive
PROPOSED SOLUTION • Hardware Needed: • Door Switches • Window Switches • Lights • Alarm • PLC
PROPOSED SOLUTION • Build a scale model of a house to wire up the security system as if it were going into a real house
PROPOSED SOLUTION • Programming of the PLC • Took a class in PLC programming approximately 2 years ago • Chose the Allen Bradley SLC500 because of familiarity with the PLC • Refresh myself on programming of the PLC • Write the PLC program • Troubleshoot PLC program
PROPOSED SOLUTION • Wire everything up and test it out
RESULTS • Got everything wired up • Tested all circuits before connecting to PLC • Security system worked once tied into PLC • Whenever a door or window is opened, the alarm is triggered until the homeowner resets it
CONCLUSIONS • A PLC is a very realistic means of setting up an internal alarm for your home • Can be easily programmed • Versatile • Project was a learning experience • Learned how to wire up a PLC • Learn about alarm techniques and how to setup an alarm
