  3. Distance of Mercury • Mercury is closest plant to the sun and is also the first planet in the solar system. • The distance from the sun in kilometers is 57,910,000 km. • The distance from the sun in AU’s is 0.38 AU’s.

  4. Size of Mercury • The size of mercury is quite small for a planet, its diameter in kilometers is 4,880 km. • Compared to other rocky planets it is small Venus: 12,104 km Earth: 12,742 km Mars: 6,779 km

  5. Other Cool Facts About Mercury • The core of the planet nearly takes up ¾ of the planets diameter. Mercury’s iron core is about the size of the moon. • You would think that Mercury is the hottest planet because it is the closest to the sun, its really only the second hottest planet! Despite being further from the sun, Venus experiences higher temperatures.
