Quality and Informationfor General Practice The journey so far
Learning from QOF • 1996-2005 – Standards development and general practice accreditation programme • 2006 – RNZCGP & GPLF visits to UK to explore QOF • Every level of the UK health sector visited from DoH, NHS, universities, RCGP to PCTs and general practices
qi4gp is born • RNZCGP and GPLF produced reports identifying pathways for quality and information development in NZ • Overall conclusion – QOF a good thing but to work in NZ needs to sit within a wider context • We need a quality framework encompassing CQI principles, primary-care clinical leadership, clinical governance and engagement
qi4gp Vision • “to develop, articulate and implement a vision for a quality and information strategy for general practice in New Zealand” • RNZCGP leading Quality Work Stream • IPAC leading Information Work Stream • GPLF guiding qi4gp progress and integration

Stage 1An Initial Perspective Aims • Outline recent history and policy context • Identify key stakeholders and their roles • Consider how quality in general practice contributes to improved health outcomes and reduced inequalities • Consider information required to support quality • Highlight needs and priorities for information development • Completed August 2007
Stage 2Develop and Clarify the Vision • HISAC support early 2008 • qi4gp included in Key Directions Business Case • Delays around Key Directions • Sector leader Scoping Workshop July 08 • Quality and Information “Startup” proposals pending
