Introduction • This article was written to provide general information about the world wide web slang term “blog” and its contents, as well as its structure. • This presentation will cover the definition of a “blog”, general information you need to know, as well as some helpful tips that will enhance your experience of blogging.

  3. Definition • "Blog" is internet lingo used to describe web sites that maintain an ongoing chronicle of information. A blog is a frequently updated, website featuring chronologically ordered commentary and links to articles and other web sites. Blogs range from the personal to the political, and can focus on one narrow subject or a whole range of subjects.

  4. Definition… Negation: • A website where you can not edit your comments (posts) , and others can not leave their comments in response to your topic (thread). • It is not a Content Management System that provides advanced blogging tools, with the intent of making your information publicly available. Example: • UMBC Blackboard (Communications/Discussion Board)

  5. General Information • “Blog" is an abbreviated version of "weblog“ • The blogs are usually archived • There is a syndication process that offers feeds • Verification: Pingback and Trackback features • Comment moderation and spam • Blog by e-mail for convenience. • Plugins enhance blogging experience • Blogs may be different, depending on domain.

Blogging Tips • Post often and regularly, only if you have useful information. • Stick to only a few topics (threads). • Don’t tell others to subscribe, or vote for your threads unless you are completely sure others like them. • Use a clean and simple topics (threads). • Enjoy, blog for fun, and comment on other peoples' blogs. • Don’t be scared. It is only the internet.
