  2. And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.” (Gen 9:1)

  3. Ham had children . . .

  4. “. . . was the first on earth to be a mighty man . . . a mighty hunter before the LORD . . .The beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. From that land he went into Assyria and built Nineveh,” (Gen 10:8-10)

  5. Shem had children . . .

  6. “ . . . the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided, . . .” (Gen 10:25)

  7. Japheth had children . . .

  8. “From these the coastland peoples spread in their lands, each with his own language, by their clans, in their nations.” (Gen 10:5)

  9. During these years, the descendants of Noah remained together as one people, traveling to the land of Shinar. (Gen 11:1-2)

  10. The people were determined to remain unified. (Gen 11:3-4)

  11. They rejected the idea of being “scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”

  12. The Lord saw the will of man and rejected it. The Lord confused the languages and scattered man over the face of the earth. (Gen 11:5-9)

  14. The Will of Man vs The Will of God • From the beginning of time . . . • Adam and Eve • Cain's sacrifice • Days of Noah • God told Noah to fill the earth, but his descendants chose to stay together. (Gens 9:1) • Man has always tried to lead himself. (Jere 10:23)

(Luke 11:2; John 4:34; 5:30; 6:38; Matt 25:39; Heb 5:7-9) • One must do God's will to enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matt 7:21-23) • One must do God's will to be in fellowship with Christ. (Matt 12:50)

  23. Conclusion • The people of Babel followed their own will and not God's will. • Will you follow the example of Jesus and the apostles or will you follow the example of the many before you who put their will before God's will? • Show your answer by turning to the Lord in faithful obedience.
