Tertiary: • Eocene: 53 mya – 40 mya; earliest horses, rhinos, camels, North America splits from Europe, Himilayasstart to form.
Tertiary: • Oligocene: 40 mya – 25 mya; earliest elephants, Baja California splits from Mexico
Tertiary • Miocene: 25 mya – 11 mya; first homonids,
Quaternary • Pliocene: 11 mya – 2 mya. Rapid spread of grazing animals. Peak of mammals, “Lucy”3 mya
Quaternary • Pleistocene: 2 mya – 10,000 ya; earliest modern man, giant mammals die out. Homo sapiens(600,000). Grand Canyon starts to form
Quaternary • Quaternary: 10,000 years ago – today; Man dominates, domestic animals flourish, Great Lakes forms as glaciers retreat.
