UKMAMS Legacy • 1966 formed at RAF Abingdon • Established to provide air movements support wherever and whenever required • 1974 transferred to RAF Lyneham • Evolved to become self-contained air combat service support unit (ACSSU) at high readiness for worldwide operations • Support to RAF Lyneham Base Operations

UKMAMS TO 1AMW • Forty-year model out-dated and not fit for purpose in expeditionary era. • Interim reorganization in 2004; major surgery in 2006. • Three key aims - enhance capacity to support ops ; better utilize personnel; be prepared for CATARA. • Key changes - switch of personnel from base to mobile duties; creation of the HQ Sqn and 44 and 45 MAMS; introduction of FRC. • 2 Phase change programme - phase 1 complete and phase 2 about to start. • Short and medium-term challenges remain.

Phase 2 and the Future • Embed new structure and drive towards harmony guidelines • 30 civilian contractors on base • Expansion of 1 AMW Role & Capacity: • Assume AFGHAN Movs task (07) • Maintain commitment to DXP and eventually cover majority of movs DWRs • Develop trained FMCC capacity • Develop synergy with 29 Regt RLC and 47 (AD) Sqn RLC • Re-deploy iaw CATARA requirement
