  2. Pakistani Culture • Very Role Oriented • Both men and women have different tasks • Pakistanis believe in women being more at home and men providing for their families • Men aren’t really held accountable for what they do, society focus more on the women and make sure they are doing everything right at all times.

  3. Marriage • Marriage is highly valued in the Pakistani culture, you are expected to be married by no later than 25 years of age. • Most marriages are arranged by the families, and some brides don’t have much say in it. • Pakistanis love weddings, they consist of 3 day rituals that all the families look forward to.

  4. Religion • Islam (Muslim) is the main religion of the Pakistani culture, Christianity and Hinduism follow. • The Islam religion believes in the Five Pillards of Islam which include: Faith, Prayer, Alms, Fasting and Pilgrimage.

  5. Five Pillards of Islam • Faith(Shahada) Islamic way of expressing faith • Prayer(Salat) ritual prayers that are performed through out the day, they start at dawn until evening. • Fasting (Sawn) Mainly done during Ramadan which is the ninth month of the Islamic year. • Alms (Zakat) Required among all Muslims will sufficient means. Giving to the Mosque to help the ones in needs. • Pilgrimage (Hajj) “Holy Journey” All Muslims are required to visit Mecca once in a lifetime.

  6. Music • Pakistani music contains sources from Asia, Persia and Turkey • A lot of the songs now originate from Bollywood movies • A lot of the music is upbeat and fun and the genres are Bhangra, Punjabi and Hindi • Punjabi and Hindi music are categorized as music of the “golden age” which means they have Americanized the songs by adding r&b and hip hop.

  7. “Sun rahahainatu” • Is a perfect example of a song that touches the conflicts of two people who are in love but can’t do anything about it because of the differences in religions and family culture/beliefs. • This is Faeiza’s favorite song, she says it truly describes everything about her and her culture. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3UHfi9vpbc

  8. FaeizaJaved One of the most beautiful women I have met. She is currently at the University of Utah going for her Masters degree in Social Work and Law degree. She lives in the middle of both worlds, the one where she tries to satisfy her parents and the one where she is preparing to help women in the Middle East to have a voice of their own, something she has the privilege of having. Her dream is to help women get ahead in life.
