Lincoln School Overall Results The students listed have had Mr. Huber for two years and have NWEA scores for both of those years. Please note that the COT room was not up and running until late November of 08. Numbers represent points under or above the NWEA Target For Typical Growth.
Brown School Overall Results The students in Mrs. Lee’s classroom are labeled as Learning Disabled. They receive services for reading, language arts, and/or math. The students addressed below have had Mrs. Lee for at least two years, and have NWEA scores for those years. In most cases, the higher scores in the 07/08 school year are the result of getting the specialized and small group assistance for the first time in their academic career. Numbers represent points under or above the NWEA Target For Typical Growth.
Clarke COT Test Results 80% 71% 57% 21% 17% 13% The top number shows the percentage of 24 students who met or exceeded growth targets from Fall to Spring testing 08/09. The bottom numbers shows the percentage of 24 students who met their target growth in 08/09, but did NOT in 07/08.
Clarke COT Test Results These numbers show the change in number of students who met or exceeded NWEA goals between 07/08 and 08/09. Teacher #1 had a traditional classroom. Teacher #2 taught the first year in a traditional classroom and the second in a COT room,
Upton Middle School Overall Results Mr. Rommel’s students were tested in the Fall and again in the Spring. Please note that the COT room was not up and running until late October of 2008.

High School Overall Results The High School saw a dramatic increase in math scores in the MME (ACT) test this year. This test is given annually to all 11th graders each Spring, many of whom were in Mrs. Morris’ Algebra II class in the COT room.

Also the interactive board helped explaining ideas and helped us memorize stuff more. Did learning in the COT make a difference for you? Yes!, the technology helped our teachers to use more visual techniques in teaching us. Yes!, it allowed more of a student interactive environment, the seating was new and allowed more student to student interaction. Yes!, we could cover more materials everyday because going from topic to topic took only a few seconds Yes!, it was more interactive, so I could be more involved. - High School
Which of the above items made the biggest impact on your learning. • The board, sound system, chairs & desk, and the aides (response system). I can hear and see easier with the board and sound system. • The interactive board, because it was easier to want to learn because it was more interesting. • I believe it was the software for the board, it was what allowed Mrs. Morris to show us the information for the class. • The microphone. I could actually hear her. • The carpeting, no but really the board is helpful. The student response system gets the students to interact and give answers and not fear the identity problem in case they are wrong. The microphone helps, because I know some teachers who are quiet. - High School
What difference(s) have you noticed most often when you compare our classroom with other buildings. • Other classrooms take more time, because there are not pre-taken notes, the other teachers must write down their notes. • This one is more fun to be in. You feel more alert, because you never know when fun stuff you'll see/use next. • I stay awake in the COT, more of a media based aspect on our curriculum. • The lights - saves energy, the board saves on markers and not so boring. The chairs & desks give you room to move comfy. • More comfortable and more interesting • Its not as boring as a real class where they talk, talk, talk, all day! - High School
What would you change in the COT room if you could? • More chairs with armrests. • I would make the whole room interactive board. • Yes, I would make more technology available to the students. • A digital clock, and put laptops on each desk, and food. • Nothing , it is amazing! - High School
Comments “The class room of today has impacted my work because the smart board is fun, so I want to go up and answer a problem on the board. The speaker system makes it a lot easier to hear so I don’t miss anything. It is nice to have a colored room. It makes it more peaceful, not just bland white. The lights are much easier on my eyes. When you do a podcast it is much easier to see and understand. The remote control is nice because you can control the lights, the smart board, and maybe even the volume of the speakers. This is why I think every classroom in this district needs one.” – Brown School Student

SJPS Goal for the Classroom of Today • GOAL: To assure that all students in all classrooms have the opportunity to learn in true 21st Century Learning Environments as has been successfully modeled during the 2008-2009 school year. • ACTIONS: It is essential that adequate funding be provided to create and support these classrooms, on a long-term basis, be provided to support the significant cost of implementing and maintaining the Classrooms of Today. Our Educational Technology Specialists and current COT teachers are committed to work with the Administration, Board of Education, and St. Joseph Education Foundation to bring about a successful vote on a technology bond issue.
