The 40tude London Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) Marathon 2014 Saturday 14th June 2014 Join 40tude’s 2014 SUP Marathon on the River Thames! It’s back again for a second year – 40tude’s ‘marathon with a difference’! The London SUP Marathon is a long distance – approximately 26 mile – mass paddle on the Thameswhich is taking place on Saturday 14th June 2014, starting at Sheppertonand finishing at Putney. The course combines tidal and non-tidal sections of the river passing through three locks and under 14 bridges while taking in some of the River’s most picturesque sights, including Hampton Court, Syon House, Kew Gardens, Ham House and Richmond Hill. What is SUP? Stand Up Paddleboarding, or ‘SUP’ as it has become known, has been evolving rapidly over the last few years and is now the fastest growing water sport worldwide. All you need is a board (similar to a surfboard but more stable) and a paddle. These can be hired from the event organiser – Active360. To SUP, you simply stand on the board and paddle! It’s easy to learn the basics and most people can stand and paddle in a straight line within 30 minutes of starting. Paddleboarding is recognised as a great way to stay in shape – it gives you a total body workout strengthening all your core muscles. Training for this event consists of a rigorous programme of varied exercise and time spent on the board learning technique and safety. Any profits and all funds raised through this event will be directed to: St Mark’s Hospital Foundation, registered UK charity number: 1140930
