Overview on Participation • Hungary and with other New Member States joined FP5 – limited number of participation in projects • FP6 (6th Framework Programme of the European Commission): full member from the beginning but not an EU member till the middle of the Programme (1st of May 2004) „The first steps” - Hungarian particiaption in FP6

3. Participation in Aeronautics • The Aeronautical work programme of FP6 did not take into consideration the differences of the New Member States (NMS, EU-10) from the „Old” Member States (EU-15) • The aeronautical industry of NMSs was not „FP6 compliant”: • No small aircraft development • No UAVs • Limited effort on regional aircraft development • Limited and delayed efforts to try to enhance participation of those organisations from NMS who could contribute to the „mainstream” of the Workprogramme „The first steps” - Hungarian particiaption in FP6

4. Participation in Aeronautics 2 • The „non-compliance” resulted in a Net Payer Status of the NMS (incl. Hungary) of the FP6 budget in aeronautics. • Hungarian organisations could not benefit from being part of an international knowledge transfer through research projects. • HOWEWER: THERE IS A PROGRESS!!! „The first steps” - Hungarian particiaption in FP6

6. THENA • THENA – FP5 – DG TREN: THEmatic Network on Airports • Collecting and distributing all research results related to airports: - efficiency, capacity - safety, security - environment „The first steps” - Hungarian particiaption in FP6

7. CAATS • CAATS – FP6 - DG TREN Cooperative Action on Air Traffic Services • Cooperating with other research projects in the following fields of Air Traffic Management: - safety - human factors - validation „The first steps” - Hungarian particiaption in FP6

OPTAG • OPTAG („Optical Tag”) – FP6 - DG Research • Improving airport Efficiency, Security and Passenger Flow by Enhanced Passenger Monitoring • A „typical” research project aiming to develop a new system • Main objective is to improve efficiency and security at airports „The first steps” - Hungarian particiaption in FP6
