  4. Introduction to SESA • A form of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Social Impact Assessment (SIA) that can assist managers and leaders in making decisions about proposed policies, plans and programs 4

Purpose of SESA • ensure environmental and social concerns are integrated into PPP formulation and decision-making. • Two main purposes: • SESA as an environmental and social safeguard check on already drafted PPPs before official adoption. • SESA as an internalized planning tool to consider environmental consideration during PPP formulation. • SESA is most commonly applied as an extension of EIA and SIA principles and practice to PPPs. 5
