3CS Wire Protection • 3CS does not currently meet the requirements of TA-92-038. • 3CS polyswitch trip current 14A. Wire (22AWG) is good for only 9.5 A. • Although considered a dead bus, NASA has clarified that wiring in the vicinity of the battery (i.e., any energized portion of the circuit) must adhere to the circuit protection requirements of TA-92-038. • Nanosat-2 will take steps to bring the hardware into compliance with TA-92-038 • Several options being considered, including procedural and hardware changes • Hazard reports and FSDP to be changed to state Nanosat-2 compliance with TA-92-038.
3CS Wire Protection - Options • Modifications to the 3CS circuit • Incorporate cartridge type fuse with reduced blow characteristics and/or… • Replace wiring from the battery to EPS with higher capacity wiring • Flying with 3CS batteries drained • Need to establish the minimum discharge requirements for the batteries. • Mission success issue: limited time to charge batteries, initiate EEDS and activate Lightband. • No-changes option • Requires analysis to determine safety impact of existing design. • Requires pyro- and failure analysis.
