What is Nordic Walking? • Nordic walking is using specially designed poles to engage the upper body during fitness walking. • Founded in Finland and used as a cross-country skiing summer training method.
Benefits of Nordic Walking • Caloric expenditure and energy consumption increased an average of 20%.(400 per hour compared to280) • As much as 46% increase in oxygen consumption and similar caloric expenditure was achieved. • Heart rate increased 7-10 beats per minute. • RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion) was the same as walking without the poles. • Increased upper body strength.
Benefits of Nordic Walking • Effective release of shoulder and neck tension. • Low impact activity results in less stress on the joints. • Adds stability and safety on slippery surfaces. • Allows the same intensity or running without the impact. • Helps to improve balance, corrects walking posture, and radically reduces strain in the shins and knees.
Lifetime Activity • Great for weight loss and general conditioning. • It is a total body workout! • It is a great social activity and you can enjoy with friends and family for a lifetime.
