  3. Principle from Scripture 7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Galatians 6:7-8 (NIV) This passage does not offer an “unless” clause. Therefore, no one is exempt from the consequences of their sin - not even those with a repentant heart. Thus, we reap what we so - forgiveness notwithstanding. When we sin against God and have been restored, we still must live with the consequences of our sin and endure the storm sin creates.

Problems in the Palace • General Prediction: Nathan named the consequences that King David would have to endure for his adultery: • The sword shall never depart from your house • The Lord would raise up evil against David’s household from within it • Specific Results Sown: • Marital Infidelity – Absalom lays in full view with David’s concubines (12: 11-12) • Bathsheba’s Baby Dies – the Lord strikes the child with a sickness and takes his life (12:15-19) • A Brother disgraces his sister – Amnon violates Tamar, his half sister (13:1-15) • One Brother Sows Hate against his Brother – Absalom festers hate towards Amnon for getting away with rape (13:22) • Absalom Kills Amnon – in revenge for his sister’s violation (13: 28-29) • Absalom Rebels and Runs Away – Absalom becomes a fugitive in his grandfather’s house • Absalom leads a conspiracy - holds a grudge against his father (King David) and develops a plan to overthrow him (15:14) • Joab murders Absalom – King David mourns Absalom’s death(18:14-33) Looking back now, do you think David’s sin was worth all of this devastation?

  5. God Is Not Mocked God’s forgiveness is as sure as the consequences of our actions, especially those that end up evolving into sin. God’s grace does not always erase sin’s consequences. If you are practicing sin, STOP before the harvest of your action(s) becomes more than you can endure.
