  1. Electromagnetic waves DEF:7 different types of waves that do not need mediums, and can travel through vacuums. A Power Point Presentation by Tricia Corum

  2. Forms of Electromagnetic waves • Radio waves • Microwaves • Inferred waves • Visible light • Ultraviolet light (rays) • X- rays • Gama rays

  3. Radio waves • Slowest form of electromagnetic wave • Artificially generated • Naturally occurred by lightning • Provides radio stations • Used to broadcast TV

  4. Microwaves • second slowest form of wave • Used in a household environment daily • Used in cell phones as well • Subset of radio waves

  5. Infrared waves • Third slowest form of wave • Used mostly for military uses • Used in some night vision glasses • Used in some submarines

  6. Visible light • Fourth fastest form of wave • Visible to the human eye • Travels at about 300,000 kilometers per second • Comes from the sun, electricity and many other things

  7. Ultra violet light • Third fastest form of wave • Seen as the color “violet” • Used in tanning beds • Invisible to the human eye • Black lights use this

  8. X-rays • Used in hospitals • Second fastest wave • “hard x- rays can penetrate objects • Most commonly used to see inside objects

  9. Gamma rays • Fastest ray known to man • Produced by a decay of high energy • Naturally produced by lightning • Found in space

  10. Mechanical Waves • DEF: Any wave that needs a medium to travel • EX: hitting a desk( because the force of the hit send vibrations through the object to make waves), waves in a pool (because the disturbance in the water makes the water move making waves)
