WATER – ACE Project Science and Technology services for Supporting Water Management Policies in Developing Countries Water ACE : The framework Framework will be based around 3 Big Axes or Land Marks of the Water – ACE AXE 1 Supporting the development of regional networks • Optimising competences and knowledge sharing in the frame of an open network (southern and West Africa) • The network should address governance and policy issues: • => being a technical and scientific adviser e.g in SWAPs, to AMCOW -TAC AXE 2 Guidelines, Data and Policy Dissemination • Information dissemination at Regional BUT also at Continental level • EC Contribution: EU Guidelines for Water Management that should become “a base for the African Water Guidelines” • EC - ESA Contribution: TIGER = Support through Call for Proposals – Capacity Building, Data, Software AXE 3 Water Knowledge Management Building • The objective is to Build and Valorise the African Water Knowledge • EC Contribution: AQUAKNOW Platform = Web-based information system for Virtual Communication, Knowledge Management and Training on-line. • www.aquaknow.net

This is not a shopping list • Establishing a Medium – Long Term Strategy for the Centres of Excellence ( CoE) • Identifying JOINT “Strong Points” and “Weaknesses” of the CoE • Establishing COMMON priorities for JOINT activities • Proposing a Stable BUT Open Structure = New members-institutions can be identified
