The teachers of Popov • It is known that on the 31st of august A.S. Popov enters the Saint-Petersburg university (the physics-mathematics faculty). He is taught by Mendeleev D.I., Petrushevskiy P.P., Chebyshev and others. • In 1883 he works in the torpedo officer class. • In 1889 he is the director of the electric station in Nizhniy Novgorod. But he also finds time for science work.
The Cogerer –the Popov’s invention • This device consists of he glassy tube with two electrodes. In the tube there are small metal sawdust, on which the electric discharges influence. • The appeared electric-magnetic wave creates the alternating current of high frequency. • To make the reception of the without-cable connection automatic, Popov used device of bell for shaking of the cogerer after signal reception. • Then the device was upgraded and united with the first antenna for the without-cable connection.
The necessity of the without-cable connection • Many kinds of human activity needed connection, especially sailors, that can not use cable connection. • The idea of the telegraph without cables was brought about by Popov. He convened the mechanism that made signal bring in moving the cogerer (the device for electric-magnetic signals reception).
The 7th of May – the device’s demonstration to the society • The modern receiver has also the antenna, in which the coming wave makes the electric-magnetic oscillations, that are controlled by semi-passing devices. • On the 7th of May, 1895 in the Saint-Petersburg university demonstrated Popov device’s work. “Genrih Hertz” – the first radiogram • On the 24th of March 1896 transmitted Popov he first radiogram «Genrih Gerz» (name of Popov’s teacher).
The saving of 50 fishermen • In 1899 the ship «General Admiral Apraksin» was stopped by snowstorm in the Ices near Gogland island. • Popov built two stations in Gogland and Kotik (47 km from each other). And Gogland began receiving signals from Kotik, these signals have saved 50 fishermen.
The conclusion • On the 31st of December 1905 A.S. Popov dead. The scientist made the inestimable contribution in the development of physics. Nowadays there is plenty of things, based on Popov’s discoveries.
