The Tower of London .Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress, is a castle situated on the north bank of the River Thames in central London.It was founded in 1066 , as part of the Norman Conquest of England. Since 1100, the castle was used as a prison although that wasn't its primary purpose ,only seven people were executed in the Tower before the World Wars of the 20th century.In 1988 was declared patrimony of the humanity. The castle has got three wards :The innermost ward contains the white tower ,going around it to the north, east, and west is the inner ward which was built during the reign of Richard the Lionheart and the outer encompasses the castle and was built by Edward I. It was besieged several times and to have it controlled was important to control the country. The Tower of London
The enclosure • THE INNERMOST WARD It Encloses an area Immediately south of the White Tower,the inside ward was surrounded by a moat. A great hall existed in the south of the ward, between the two towers.
The enclosure • THE INSIDE WARD The inside ward was created during Richard the Lionheart's reign when a moat was dug . • THE OUTER WARD It was built during Edward I reign , a new moat was also dug 50 metre beyond the castle's new limits.
The white tower • The White Tower ,was built by William the conqueror in 1078 . It was the strongest structure in a medieval castle, and contained lodgings suitable for the lord
